Reports from France say that a top English Premier League (EPL) club has made contact with outgoing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic just hours after he confirmed his planned exit from the French club at the end of the season on Monday.
Reputable French sports publication, L’Equipe reports on Tuesday that Manchester United has stolen a march on Chelsea by making contact with Ibrahimovic ahead of a proposed free transfer even though the striker is set for talks over an extension at Paris Saint-Germain next month.
Chelsea had been the leading club expected to sign on Ibrahimovic but now it is clear that Manchester United which has had a pretty bad season so far is also deeply interested in getting in a good bargain for the Swedish striker.
Ibrahimovic had confirmed his readiness to dump Ligue 1 side, PSG on Monday even though the club still wants him according to PSG president.
“For the moment, I will not be at PSG next season,” the 34-year-old said. “I still have a month and a half left here.”
Ibrahimovic, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to the Premier League, said he would only stay “if they replace the Eiffel Tower with a statue of me.”
